Close inspection reveals the dermal denticles that cover the skin of sharks and rays, giving them a rough, abrasive texture. These tooth-like structures afford protection from predators and ectoparasites. They are also speculated to reduce drag whilst swimming.  Anglesey, Wales, UK. December.
