AH_Cinnabar Moth (Tyria jacobaeae) caterpillar_8040.jpg
Cinnabar Moth {Tyria jacobaeae} caterpillar. This species feeds on Common Ragwort {Senecio jacobaea}, from which it absorbs toxic alkaloid compounds that make it unpalatable. The bold black and yellow stripes warn potential predators that the caterpillar is unpalatable, an adaption known as aposematism. Derbyshire, UK. August
