AH_Prostrate perennial knawel (Scleranthus perennis spp prostratus)_2979.jpg
Prostrate perennial knawel (Scleranthus perennis spp. prostratus) in flower. This species is globally restricted to the Breckland area of Norfolk and Suffolk. It is unable to compete with more vigorous plants such as grasses. The sandy, nutrient-poor soils of the Brecks heaths and its dynamic, steppe-like climate provide the conditons that Prostrate perennial knawel requires. Back from the Brink Primary Species, 'Shifting Sands' project, Suffolk, UK. July.
