AH_Silkworm Trachea Insect_6093.jpg

Trachea of a Silkworm (Bombycidae) caterpillar, imaged from a Victorian microscope slide. After entering through a spiracle, air moves into the trachea and then into smaller tubes called tracheoles, spreading throughout the body of the insect. In this way oxygen reaches different regions of the body.
